The Checkers added a defensive reinforcement in the form of veteran blueliner Zach Miskovic on Friday.
Miskovic, who will join the Checkers in Manitoba and then be available for their next game against the Moose on Saturday, brings 280 games of AHL experience. The 30-year-old native of River Forest, IL, joins from the ECHL’s Indy Fuel, where he posted 22 points (9g, 13a) and 53 penalty minutes in 63 games while serving as team captain this season.
The signing provides needed depth for the Checkers, who did not have extra players available for Wednesday’s 7-3 win in Chicago – a game that saw both Andrew Miller and Rasmus Rissanen make early exits, with Brody Sutter heading to the NHL with Carolina the following day. Going into that game, the team was already without seven players due to injury.
Over the course of his AHL career, Miskovic (6’1”, 197 lbs.), who will mark his seventh consecutive season in the league should he play Saturday, has recorded 79 points (22g, 57a) and 208 penalty minutes while suiting up for Hershey, Chicago, San Antonio, Rockford and Iowa. He spent all of last season in Rockford, posting eight points and 40 penalty minutes in 42 games.
