OPENING UP
As they have more often than not, the Checkers are opening the season on the road - visiting Springfield on Oct. 11 and Providence the following afternoon. Fans won’t have to wait long to see their team, though, as they return to the Queen City for a pair of Opening Weekend matchups against Iowa on Oct. 17 and 18.NEW ADDITIONS
For the first time since the 2016-17 campaign, the Checkers will face the Grand Rapids Griffins - in Michigan on Nov. 21 and 22 and then at the Coliseum on Feb. 6 and 7. Charlotte, which shared a division with Grand Rapids in the past, is 18-15-2-1 all time against the Griffins.The other Western Conference opponent making an appearance on Charlotte’s schedule is Iowa. The Wild and Checkers squared off four times last season - their first meetings since 2016-17 - and Charlotte earned a sweep, outscoring Iowa 16-5 along the way.
Additionally, the Syracuse Crunch return to the fold after a two-year absence - replacing the Utica Comets on Charlotte’s schedule this season.
