The Checkers took care of business in their first visit to Colorado, doubling up the Eagles 6-3 on Tuesday night.

The first-ever meeting between the two clubs was a back-and-forth battle to start, with Charlotte’s special teams converting a power-play and shorthanded goal only to have the Eagles even the score late in the second period.

Gracyn Sawchyn would reclaim the visitor’s lead before that buzzer sounded, though - picking an Eagles skater’s pocket in the defensive zone and carrying it all the way down the ice before flinging a backhander that just snuck across the goal line.

With their lead back intact, the Checkers received some insurance in the final frame. Robert Mastrosimone lit the lamp less than two minutes in to extend Charlotte’s advantage and - despite the Eagles tacking on one more tally down the stretch - the Checkers found the vacated net on two occasions to balloon their lead to the 6-3 final score.
